2018 Sec 1 Admission (School Transfer)

Parents who are seeking to transfer their daughters to St. Margaret’s Secondary School may do so after the release of posting results on 21 December 2017. The relevant application details will be provided on this website from 9am onwards on 21 December 2017 (Thursday). Without exception, all applications should be submitted by 5pm, 22 December 2017 (Friday). There will be a series of activities held during the first week of school. Level-wide programmes will be conducted for all students from Tuesday, 2 January to Friday, 5 January. 

Students will report to school by 7.30 am for the flag-raising ceremony on all days and will be dismissed at the following times:

Changes to Reporting and Dismissal Times for Students from Monday, 8 January 2018 onwards

The school will be implementing a white space which will serve dual purpose for students and teachers. This will take place on Wednesday mornings where teachers in all levels will meet for professional learning and development to help the teachers refine their teaching practices in the classroom to ensure quality learning. Students will be able to report later on Wednesdays or use this time for self-study or group work discussions. 

With the introduction of white space, the school reporting and dismissal times will undergo some changes as shown below:

 *Students are expected to be in the school parade ground  
 before the stated time for the Flag Raising Ceremony.

As there is no change to school operation hours, students are strongly encouraged to take this opportunity to continue reporting at 7.30 am on Wednesdays for self-study and group work. 

President's Guide Award and Baden Powell Award Winner

We are proud to announce that our Girl Guides have done the school proud with one Guide receiving the prestigious President's Guide Award and two Guides receiving the Baden Powell Award. The President's Guide Award is presented by the President of Singapore to the most all-rounded Guider in recognition of her excellent performance, dedication to the Guide Movement and service to the community while the Baden Powell Award is the highest youth award achievable in the Scout and Guide movement worldwide. Well done, girls!

UNSW Mathematics Assessment

In July, our Secondary 1 to 4 students sat for the UNSW Mathematics Assessment. We are pleased to announce that 6 students achieved High Distinction and 23 students received Distinctions. Excellent job, girls!

Media Computing Competition 2017

The Media Computing Competition is an annual event jointly organised by the Curriculum Planning & Development Department (CPDD) and MOE to recognise excellence in computing skills. We are proud to share that a Computer Applications student from Sec 3NT garnered a Silver Award in the Game Category. Well done!

Mendaki Awards 2017

English Language Assessments and Competition

We are pleased to announce that the Secondary Two students have done well in the UNSW ICAS English and Writing assessments, as well as the Royal Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition 2017.

In the UNSW Writing assessment, three students were awarded High Distinction and four students received Distinction for their effort. We are pleased to share that one of our students has also been awarded a medal for being the Top Scorer of this component in Singapore. 

In the UNSW English assessment, one student received High Distinction while 19 achieved Distinction.

We would also like to congratulate two students who have done well in the Royal Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition. One student received the Gold Award in the Junior Category for her essay about how children and teenagers can come together to achieve world peace while another received the Bronze Award in the Senior Category for her essay about what is in her Toolbox for Peace.

Mother Tongue Competitions

We are pleased to share that our students have done well in several Mother Tongue Competitions. 

One student was presented with a Merit Award for the Inter-School Chinese Essay Writing Competition and a team of Secondary One students clinched 3rd prize for the Create Your Own Newspaper Competition organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning. We are also glad to share that 3 Secondary One Higher Chinese students had their essays published in a literary collection called Equatorial Wind after participating in the inter-school storytelling and writing competition.

We are also proud of the Tamil Language students for their great performance in two competitions. Our students clinched 1st Prizes in the Oratorical and Reading categories of two competitions. 2 students earned consolation prizes for Reading while 1 was awarded a consolation prize for Singing.

Netball Competitions

Our lower secondary netballers have done well in the Deloitte Pesta Sukan 2017 Netball Competition and T-Net Club U14 Netball Competition 2017. In both competitions, they have emerged 1st Runner-ups. Excellent job, girls!

24th National Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship 2017

Our C Division bowlers have achieved fourth position in the above-mentioned competition. Congratulations!

National Police Cadet Corps Inter-Unit Drills Competition 2017

The NPCC Drills Team has worked hard and done well, marching their way to the Top 20 of the competition whilst beating out competition from more than 150 other secondary schools. Great job, girls!

Lee Kuan Yew All Round Excellence Award

We congratulate Farah Nabilah Binte Jamaludin of Class 2016 for being one of the 11 award recipients for the distinguished Lee Kuan Yew All Round Excellence Award. She received this award for having excelled in both academic and non-academic spheres, and was selected to give the speech during the ceremony on behalf of the award recipients. Her efforts will definitely be an inspiration to the St. Margaret's family. Well done!

Tamil Language Competitions

We are proud to announce that our students, who took part in various Tamil Language competitions, have achieved good results. One student was awarded 1st Prize by the Association of Singapore Tamil Writers in the Kamban Poetry Competition 2017. Another student was awarded Silver for Budding Writers – Short Story Writing Competition. For the Budding Artiste – Script Writing Competition, three students were given Silver Awards. Finally, a student garnered 2nd Prize for the Indian Musical Instrument – Venna Solo - Immediate Category organised by the National Art Council. Excellent job, girls!
