YMCA Plain English Speaking Awards Competition 2018

We are pleased to announce that two of our students have emerged Champion in the Lower Secondary Category and 2nd Runner-Up in the Upper Secondary Category of the Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA) Competition. Organised by YMCA, PESA is the main national public speaking competition in Singapore aimed at promoting the effective and articulate use of plain yet attractive spoken English among primary, secondary and pre-university students. Congratulations, ladies!

SMSS Library Club Highest Readership Award 2018

This competition is organised by the St. Margaret's Secondary School Library Club to encourage the love of reading amongst our students. The top reader of each level received a certificate and a small token. Read on, St. Margaret's!

Novice Secondary Bowling Challenge 2018

We are proud to share that two of our bowlers have emerged 2nd Overall in the Masters Finals and Champions for both Singles and Doubles events. Well done, ladies!

Chinese Language Competitions

We are proud to share that a student from our school has emerged one of the Top 15 Finalists and received the Commendation Award for the National On-the-Spot Chinese Story Writing Competition 2018. Jointly organised by Lianhe Wanbao of Singapore Press Holdings, Lingzi Media Pte Ltd and Anglican High School, the competition provides a platform for primary and secondary school pupils to showcase their creative writing skills in the Chinese Language. 

At the National Chinese Language Speech Competition 2018, a student emerged first runner-up in the secondary category. This competition was jointly organised by the Singapore Chinese Langauge Teachers Association, the Society of Chinese Education Singapore, Chung Cheng High School (Main) and the student newspaper 'Comma'. Excellent work, girls!

Singapore Minime Fencing Challenge 2018

We would like to congratulate the fencers who have achieved 5th and 7th positions for the Under-14 Sabre Individual and Under-14 Epee Individual events respectively. Great job, fencers!

Energy Innovation Challenge 2018

We are pleased to announce that one of two teams who took part in the above-mentioned competition has received the Merit Award. The challenge provides an opportunity for school teams to work with professional engineering and business mentors to design or invent a product to solve and demonstrate the use of an alternative source of energy. This competition is jointly organised by Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) and Science Centre Singapore with the support of the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation (NRF).  Keep up the good work, St. Marg's!

Debate Tournaments

From July to August, our school debaters took part in four competitions, the River Valley High School U-16s Novice Debate Championships 2018, Hwa Chong Institution Debate Invitationals 2018, Hua Yi Debate Invitational 2018 and the ACJC Speech Arts Competition and Festival. We are pleased to announce that the debaters won two out of three preliminary rounds in the RVHS Novice Debate Championships. In the HCI Debate Invitationals, our students emerged 2nd overall with three of our speakers ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall respectively in their division. Two teams that participated in the Hua Yi Debate Invitational performed commendably, reaching the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. Two speakers also ranked joined 7th in the tournament. Finally, a student who performed a comic monologue in the Upper Primary/Lower Secondary Category in the ACJC Speech Arts Festival emerged 3rd. Great job, debaters!

National Schools Literature Festival 2018

SLF is the biggest literary festival for students in Singapore and has provided a powerful platform to develop students' passion and love for literature. We are proud to announce that our upper secondary girls won both Unseen and Set Text Debates, while our lower secondary girls achieved 2nd for Book Trailer and 3rd for Book Parade. Keep the love of literature alive! Well done, girls!

Singapore Youth Olympic Festival 2018 – Fencing Competitions

Organised by the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF), the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival (SYOF) acts as a platform for youths to showcase their sporting talents. We are proud to share that our fencers have done well, garnering 3rd and 6th positions in the Under-14 Epee Individual Event and 8th position for the Under-14 Sabre Individual Event. Great job, fencers!

2018 National On-The-Spot Chinese Story Writing Competition

Together with Lianhe Wanbao of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and Lingzi Media Pte Ltd,  Anglican High School organised the National On-the-Spot Chinese Story Writing Competition.  This competition provided a platform for primary and secondary school pupils to showcase their creative writing skills in the Chinese language. We are proud to share that a student from our school has emerged one of the top 15 finalists and received the Merit Award.

Toy Design Competition 2018

The aim of the Toy Design Competition organised by Singapore Polytechnic is to promote design activities and design thinking in local schools. Our students competed and designed toys for the Playground and, Automata Categories. We are pleased to share that both teams received a Commendation Award. Good job!

Girl Guides, Singapore South Division Competitions 2018

Our guides did the school proud by sweeping first position in Captain's Ball, Patch Design Competition and, Guides Knowledge and Skill Challenge. Another team also placed third in the Patch Design Competition. Well done, girls!

SYF 2018 Art Exhibition: Artist and Citizenship

We are pleased to share that our students have done well at the SYF 2018 Art Exhibition. 1 student received a consolation prize, 4 students were awarded Certificates of Participation and 3 students achieved Certificates of Merit. Of special note is a student who received a Certificate of Recognition (Special Mention). Her artwork will be displayed for a year at the Ministry of E

Pesta Pantun Competition

For the first time, St. Margaret's participated in Pesta Pantun - a Malay Language poetry competition organised by the NUS Malay Language Society. The competition is part of their efforts to promote and preserve Malay language and culture. The students have given their best efforts and earned themselves a spot in the semi-finals. Well done girls and all the best in the coming round.

Debate Competitions

We are proud to announce that our debaters have done well in the Raffles Debate Academy U-14 Debate Tournament organised by Raffles Junior College and Green Cup organised by the St. Margaret’s Secondary School Debate Club.  Our lower secondary debaters emerged champions in the Silver Division in the first competition and swept 1st and 2nd prizes for Best Speakers in the tournament. In the latter competition, one of our teams achieved 3rd place and two of our debaters ranked 6th and 9th best speakers overall in the tournament. Well done debaters!

Tamil Language Competitions

Our students took part in several Tamil Language Competitions and have performed commendably. A student garnered first prize for her poetry recital at a competition organised by Kavimaalai Singapore. In inter-school competitions organised by Raffles Institution, two of our students placed 4th in the Oratorical (Upper Secondary Category) and the Essay Writing Competitions respectively. Last but not the least, our students won 2nd prize in the Tamil News Writing Competition 2018 organised by the Association of Singapore Tamil Writers. Great job, girls!

11th International Model United Nations Conference (iMUNC)

A group of students took part in the above event hosted and organised by Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) from 5 June to 7 June 2018. iMUNC is an annual conference that sees students from various schools role play as delegates of different countries to debate real and current issues in the world. We are proud to see our team awarded Best Newcomer Delegation and one student presented with Verbal Commendation. Great job, girls!

SMSS Healthy Sandwich Making Competition 2018

We would like to congratulate students from S2-6, S2-7 and S2-5 who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in this fun and educational competition. Held in conjunction with the school's Annual Health Week, students were tasked to create a nutritious and delicious sandwich they could easily prepare for school snack breaks. We hope that this encourages all in school to eat healthily. Thank you girls for being such healthy role models!

Red Cross Youth First Aid Championships 2018

We are pleased to share that our Red Cross cadets have participated in the First Aid Championships and have garnered commendable results. 2018 National School Games (Fencing)

Our fencers have done well in the above events. 2 girls from 'C' Division won 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Epee Individual Event. Our 'C' Division and 'B' Division teams placed 2nd and 4th overall. Well done, fencers!

National Police Cadet Corps - Award Badges

We are proud to announce that one of our NPCC cadets was awarded both the SPF-NPCC and Best Unit Cadet Award for exemplifying good leadership qualities and making outstanding contributions to the school unit and HQ events, on top of obtaining the required proficiency badges and a pass in their Physical Fitness Test. These are the highest awards a NPCC cadet can achieve in secondary school. Congratulations!

Sorkalam, National Tamil Debate 2018

We are proud to announce that our Tamil debaters earned 2nd place in the biennial competition which was telecast live on Vasantham channel. One student was also awarded the Best Speaker in the Semi-Finals. Great job, girls!

ProveIt! Contest - Organised by the National Library Board

We are glad to share that our girls placed 2nd for the above competition. This inter-school competition challenges students’ information and research skills with a focus on on the topic of dispelling online falsehoods and misinformation amongst students this year. The team had to produce a one-page guide for students to help with identifying and fighting online falsehoods by cross referencing NLB's reference collection.

2018 A*STAR Science Award (Upper Secondary)

We are proud to share that two of our Secondary 3 students have received the above award from the A*Star Academy. The students will attend a 3-day Research Exposure Programme and will receive $500 allowance for the year. Keep up the good work, girls!

National School Games Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships 2018

We would like to congratulate our 'B' Division Rhythmic Gymnasts for their good performance at the National School Games. Our gymnasts have placed 2nd and 4th for Level 5 Hoops Individual Event, 6th for Level 5 Clubs Individual Event and 5th for Hoops Individual FIG Event, and 2nd for 3 Hoops and 2 Ball Group Event. Great job, girls!

Singapore Novices Championships 2018

We are pleased to announce that our fencing team has garnered several awards at the Singapore Novices 2018. Our fencers placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both the Women Epee Foil Individual and Women Foil Individual events. In team events, our fencers ranked 3rd in the Women Sabre event, 2nd in the Women Epee event and 1st in the Women Foil event. Well done, fencers!

10th International Science Youth Forum @ Singapore

Three Secondary 4 students represented our school at 10th International Science Youth Forum that saw participants from Australia, Canada, Taipei, Poland, Singapore and more. Through the week-long forum, they deepened their scientific understanding by attending lectures conducted by Nobel Laureates and eminent scientists, and learning from their peers' scientific research in a Poster Competition.

SSSC Netball Zonal B & C Division Competition

We are pleased to announce that our school netballers have done well at the Singapore Schools Sports Council Zonal tournament. Our 'B' Division and 'C' Division girls placed 4th and 3rd respectively. They will be competing at the National level soon and we wish them all the best.
